About the business

Founded in 2015 by four-time world champion Gary Nimmo, Achiltibuie Bagpipe Specialists (ABS) started as a bagpipe manufacturer. Due to growing demand for tuition and workshops, Gary started the ABS Piping & Drumming School to provide a fun, safe and professional environment for aspiring musicians to learn new skills.

From assistance in achieving grant funding, to directing me to a variety of start-up support services, my Business Gateway adviser provided me with the resources and support I needed to bring my ideas to life.

How Business Gateway has helped

Business Gateway supported Gary’s plans for growth by providing support with essential IT and HR facility improvements. A new booking system on the company website was introduced, allowing the business to capture all sign-ups to the tutoring school, data that was previously being lost due to a manual, time consuming process. Now, with support from Business Gateway, Gary has created an online mentoring programme that will allow him to enter international markets as the company continues to grow.

Gary Nimmo, founder, Achiltibuie Bagpipe Specialists commented: “From assistance in achieving grant funding, to directing me to a variety of start-up support services, my Business Gateway adviser provided me with the resources and support I needed to bring my ideas to life. The marketing and digital workshops were hugely effective when it came to raising awareness of my business and promoting Achiltibuie Bagpipe Specialists on social media. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and I plan to continue working with Business Gateway as we drive the company forward.”

What’s next?

ABS secured recent contracts with Perth and Clackmannanshire Councils to teach and develop the future stars of the world-famous Vale of Atholl Pipe Band. As part of their continued goal of making music accessible to all, ABS are set to launch regional classes in community centres and church halls in December, removing as many barriers from tuition as possible.
