Kirkcaldy based Andrew Longhurst and Stephen Dunsmore met whilst working at the same company with Andrew working as a mechanical engineer and Stephen as an electrical engineer (M+E). They both quickly developed a strong working relationship and close friendship and held similar beliefs. With over three decades combined experience working on a wide variety of job types and values, from new build and refurbishment works within the education sector, new build housing and social care projects, office refurbishments to local community centres, they both became specialists working on difficult and often avoided refurbishment projects. They have built the shared ethos to always push traditional design by pushing towards sustainable solutions, embracing emerging technology and software in the process.
Andrew commented, “In early 2020, we both decided that the best way to make the greatest impact on our goal to challenge traditions was to start our own M+E consultancy. Following the covid pandemic and the changes this brought, especially to the traditional working environment it seemed the time was right for us to embrace change and take the leap of faith and Dunhurst M+E Solutions Ltd has now been trading since June 2023. delivering all aspects of design, specification, project management and support for new build and existing residential and commercial construction projects.”
Andrew engaged with Business Gateway Fife and through their business adviser, Karen Cassells, they were able to access a variety of services and business advice. Karen said, “Andrew and Stephen were able to secure a Start Up grant for business software to support the enterprise. They also attended many of our webinars, giving them the knowledge and confidence to move forward.”
Andrew added, “Business Gateway Fife has been a crucial factor in the progression of business management related skills, with continued support through direct communication and the countless webinars on offer. Business Gateway Fife also advised us on what grants are on offer and supported us in the application of this. For anyone at any stage in their business from conception to trading I would highly recommend getting in touch with Business Gateway to see how you could help yourself and your business grow. We are also a proud member of the Fife Chamber of Commerce.”
The Fife Start Up grant is fully funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
