About the business

Established in 2017, The Old Manse of Blair is a family run country hotel situated in rural Perthshire. Combining traditional elegance with modern luxury, the boutique hotel offers private suites, weddings and events, and a five-star Visit Scotland rated restaurant, The Orangery.

Business Gateway were fantastic because they were there throughout the entire journey. To have somebody else that believes in your business is a fantastic feeling.

How Business Gateway has helped

In addition to support with government guidance and maintaining cash flow during lockdown, Business Gateway was able to provide expert advice on HR issues and the furlough scheme, implementing enhanced health and safety measures, and supported the introduction of a takeaway food service, Old Manse @ Home, to keep the business going during lockdown.

Anne MacDonald, business owner, commented: “The expert advice from Business Gateway has been invaluable in guiding us through the process of re-evaluating the business, from financial planning to HR issues during what was an extremely challenging period.

“The government announcements were coming in thick and fast and it was difficult to know what applied to us, and having the support of my adviser, Andrew to point us in the right direction to relevant sources of support has been vital throughout lockdown.”

What’s next?

During lockdown, the team at The Old Manse of Blair worked hard to build an on-site farm shop and pressed on with the development of seven new purpose built, self-catered rooms out with its main historical property. The business hopes to capitalise on the staycation market as Scotland emerges from lockdown.
