Scottish bike manufacturer set for global growth after upgrading online systems

A Scottish business, which designs and manufactures bespoke bikes and trikes for physically disadvantaged children and adults, is aiming for further global growth after accessing specialist support through Business Gateway.

About the business

Theraplay is the UK’s longest established manufacturer of bikes and trikesfor riders with additional needs, with a wide network of oversees distributors in different countries. Founded in 1970 by the McDonald family, the business has created 20 models, alongside a range of positioning accessories and gear options that offer riders customised solutions to their needs.

How Business Gateway has helped

After accessing Expert Help from Business Gateway in March 2021, Theraplay was guided through technical and IT systems, and has since developed an upgraded website with a simple online system that interprets user measurements and passes them direct to the manufacturing facility in East Kilbride.

The upgraded systems have improved customer service, efficiencies, and productivity, allowing Graeme, Iain and the team to focus on the development of the business as they look at further international growth.
